Brief
History
Cagayan has long been a
home for many artists. However only very few of these talented people were
known and they were ventured out as individuals as they were not well organized
then. For so many years, perhaps decades,
the Cagayano artists had been freelancers and rarely had their works
been exhibited, thus, only a few knew of their existence. Until sometime in the
late 1990's, a group of painters, illustrators and sculptors had convened to
promote visual arts and made effort to announce to everyone that they exist and
mounted art exhibitions and competitions bringing to life the Cagayano
Artists Association (CAA).
Unfortunately, their enthusiasm gradually distinguished until the group became
dormant. And again, for a few years, art in Cagayan was never seen and was
never heard of.
But six years ago, light started to dawn in among the local
artists as the Kalinawa Arts Foundation,
Inc. thru the initiative of the Cagayan Provincial Museum and the Provincial
Government came into the scene and funded art exhibitions and competitions
annually for five consecutive years in Cagayan. Then in 2013, a core group of
former members of the CAA decided to give rebirth to the group in another
name... now known as the Cagayano Artists Group(CAG) and recently became
officially known as the Cagayano Artists Group, Inc. (CAGI). An organization of
local artists made concrete and legitimate as it is duly registered to the
Securities and Exchange commision(SEC).
